Big Trouble in Little Azeroth?

So was this a brush with death for a huge amount of characters from 17 realms? Does data corruption mean loss of toons? As has become the norm of late, Blizzard keeps it quiet and blames “suppliers”. This isn’t the friendly tech support I remember from Warcraft 3 days.

I don’t know if I’d call it a “brush with death.”
I have no doubt that blizzard has a robust backup and disaster recovery plan. If actual data was lost the worst case scenario would have players waiting a day or two for all of their data to be restored from the backup.

From the early reports (in-game) It seemed that the problem was that the backup was being comprimised by corrupt data being fed into it. But the point stands that we will never know.

I’m on Kilrogg, and they rolled back to about 20 minutes before the server went down. It’s not too bad, all I lost was about half of a quest that I could finish pretty easily. It could’ve been much worse.
