WoW / Second Life crossover

Jerry from the Electric Sheep Co. is currently planning a crossover event between WoW and Second Life.

“SL and WoW respectively represent the state of the art in the narrative and non-narrative, game and non-game metaverse, but their cultures, aims, and the experiences they provide are dramatically different. WoW players often dis on SL users (“Oh, it’s just a boring social world”), and vice verse (“You can’t *do* anything in WoW”), perhaps based partly on a lack of understanding and shared experience.”

A wiki about the event has been started here.

I’m hoping that my guild on Shadow Council, the Blue Mon Group, will be involved, but at the moment I’m not sure how easy it will be for Australian players to participate in the event because of the time difference. Anyway, I see that a basic Second Life account is free, so I’m off to start one now.

So, if I bump into someone, will the event ask me if I want to go whine to a GM, because this “could be harassment”?

I don’t know. Frankly, I’ve just spent the last hour in Second Life and I can’t say I ever found the point. I did find a heap of “garage sales” and lots of things that looked like gambling machines. I think I’m going to need a tour from someone who “gets it”.

    Hi Chris,

I posted the SLoW wiki and can totally tour SL with you and anyone else interested. Look me up in SL as SNOOPYbrown Zamboni. It can be hard to find the interesting stuff when you just get going.

Check out New World Notes at for interesting posts and places to visit. “Great Builds of SL” is a good source for some interesting SL architecture . You can search for events in SL to see some of what’s going on (lots of noise in there, but some good stuff) and when you pull up the world map you see people as green dots. Double-click a swarm to teleport there see what kinda doin’s a transpirin’ :). Searching for “sandbox” is fun too, those are places where people hang out and build things–great to watch and learn from.

Hope that’s a good start on help. SL was also on the cover of Business Week a few weeks back with an interesting look at what’s going on there: .
