And that was a tricky title… the idea of this post is to discuss why are YOU playing WOW!

Is it to gear up and be the best that you can be in game? Is it to enjoy a fun time with friends? Or is it something else?

This past weekend I went to Stratholme Live to farm Righteous Orbs for some Crusader enchants.

Yes, Stratholme is a level 60 instance, with under-par loot compared to Outlands greens and blues; but it is still FUN. We did the whole instance in group of three toons: I was tanking on Dreadmoon (level 70 druid); we have a healer (level 62 priest) and DPS (level 62 mage).

Running a level 60 instance with a smaller group makes it still a challenge, running a level 60 instance with friends is priceless.

Most of us had little to no experience in Stratholme. After all, going into the high end instances when the cap was 60 wasn’t always easy (try getting groups for level 70 instances now in TBC ;-) ). So for some of us, instances like Stratholme, Dire Maul, Blackrock Depths and Scholomance are always a fun experience.

I am sure that in the near future I will getting a group of intrepid players into the guts of Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj (AQ20)
and Zul’Gurub (ZG).

Now, what is your take on that? Would you consider running old level 60 instances a waste of time or are you willing to do it for the fun of it?

So far I have two main toons, Dreadmoon and Slimme, both 70, both belonging to a “this is the most nerfed class on the game” category: Druid and Hunter.

Of course, if they were anything else, they will still belong to the same category. After all, our class is hugely underpowered compared to any other class around… right?

As part of my “learning the class” experience I tend to visit the Class forums in the official World of Warcraft site. And let me tell you, that is a trip…

Every single class forum I’ve been to is filled with, mainly, 3 types of posts:

1) QQ from the class players. While there are valid comments related to the way some abilities or talents have been designed, most posts seems to be cry outs from players that want to have a god-type toon.

2) NERF NERF NERF post from every other class, specially those that are not a good match on 1 v 1 PvP. They just shout and beg for the class to be nerfed (changed in design to reduce their over powerdness)

Most of the QQ and NERF posts reflect the idea that any class should be able to go PvP to any other class and win. So if I am playing class A and I am killed in a duel by someone playing class B that can only mean that class A is underpowered or that class B needs to be nerfed.

Both type of posts seems to forget the fact that a large part of this game is based in teaming with other players.

3) Informative class related posts. These are the posts that make the visit to the class forum worthwhile. These are the posts that explain certain game mechanics related to the class, discuss gearing options and talent choices for the class. Thankfully, a lot of these great posts have been “stickied” so people can easily find them.

Now, getting back to the different classes, how do you feel?

I am the kind of player that enjoys the game and tries to take advantage of the talents and abilities of my toon without actually worrying of what will happen in the next patch, which basically means: less QQ and more Pew Pew

Do you feel that endless complains serve a purpose when it comes to posting in the official forums? (BTW, as a Druid I can spend hours here discussing our issues ;-) )

Note: QQ refers to the emote of two eyes with tears in them = crying.

..and finally found my motto in the Eitrigg forums.

It goes like this:

“If the tank dies, it’s the healer’s fault. If the healer dies, it’s the tank’s fault. If anyone else dies, it’s their own damn fault”

Which means that as a tank, I should only concern myself with making sure the “skull” target is tanked and that there will be no healing aggro to be worry about.

One of the good things of having multiple toons and/or changing class specs is that you get to learn what other people already know.

Before changing my spec to Feral, Dreadmoon was full Balance… and it is a world apart.

When I was a chicken, tanking seemed to be the most boring role in the whole game… c’mon, you just have to stand there and let yourself be hit… how HARD can THAT be?

…ask a tank…

So, next time you are in a group and you see mobs running around, don’t instantly blame the tank… ask yourself… who am I attacking? and learn to focus fire ;-) (of course, at the time of the wipe the one to blame will still be the tank and the healer)
