300 Naked Orcs Take On Gamon

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2AkvPDBT_E

Poor Gamon. He just can’t catch a break – or he couldn’t, until Cataclysm came out, and he got a pretty hefty buff to the tune of now being an 85 Elite mob waiting quietly in respite for anyone who would dare attack him. And trust me, when you attack him, he brings the pain.

But what’s this? Apparently 300 naked orcs are more than enough to take him on and take him down. Check out the video – which will likely go down in the halls of legend – above. it’s a long, hard pitched battle, but eventually he falls to the massive fury of 600 orcish fists.

Want to see how powerful he is normally? Check out the video below from the venerable Total Biscuit when he decided to try his luck against Gamon back in the beta:

Epic.

The Deadliest Rabbit

Over at the World of Warcraft Livejournal Community, frequent poster and all-around awesome news source Tchernobyl had a couple of interesting sights to share – one of which was the bunny above, which is all kinds of ready to throw down with anyone who might think to pick a fight with him.

It’s not the only thing he noted either – there’s a mouse in there wearing someone’s skull and carrying a pair of shotguns, too.

Yeah, I don’t understand either. But what I do know is that that right there is a rabbit you don’t want to mess with. He may very well be the Omega Hare.

Look What Showed Up at The Office?

I’ll be in my bunk.

Today’s the Day!

Throngs of people lined up outside of electronics stores and game retailers, people fidgeting with the digital download to try and make it go faster, people rushing into game to get world firsts – it’s on, folks, Cataclysm is here and officially launched!

Me? I’m still waiting for my copy of the collector’s edition to be delivered before I can crack it open and install it. If you’re curious what’s inside the collector’s edition, you can check out these awesome unboxing photos over at Gearlog that we posted about yesterday. Maybe you’re waiting eagerly for the UPS of FedEx truck to come by your home or business too? Maybe you took a few days off in anticipation of the event: over at the World of Warcraft Livejournal Community there are tons of people who didn’t sleep at all last night and are already in-game and have been since midnight PST last night!

So what will you do first? Head to Hyjal and start kicking butt under the shade of the world tree? Or perhaps you’re off to Vashj’ir to beat up on the Naga? Or better still, maybe you’re starting the game from the beginning with a shiny new Goblin or Worgen? Let us know what you’re up to in the comments!

Lil’ Ragnaros and Moonkin Hatchling Available in the Blizzard Store!

Look into those eyes. You know you want one. You know you need him by your side while you traipse around the new Azeroth, keeping him safe from harm. And now you can have one! The Moonkin Hatchling and the Lil’ Ragnaros are both available in the Blizzard Store for $10 USD each.

Once you pay, you’ll get a little present to your Battle.net account when you log in to the game with your new companion. Both are only available as digital downloads, and once you buy one you get the companion on all characters associated with your Battle.net account, current or future.

Will you be picking up one of the new companions, or is ten bucks a little steep for an in-game pet? Let us know in the comments!

Video :: Literal World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Trailer

This is hilarity. It’s a little cheesy, sure, but it’s also fantastic – especially for those of us who have seen the trailer a couple of times. I give you, the LITERAL Cataclysm trailer, complete with subtitles. Enjoy!

New Cataclysm Wallpaper – Deathwing Comes to Your Desktop

Blizzard dropped a new Cataclysm wallpaper yesterday, the first in the wallpaper gallery that’s definitely and officially all about Cataclysm. Normally that wouldn’t be too newsworthy on its own, but I mean look at it – it’s fantastic.

You can click the image above to enlarge it and get the 1920 x 1200 version, but I highly recommend you head over to Blizzard’s wallpaper site to let them detect your screen resolution and get you the right one directly. Enjoy!

Video :: Blizzcon 2010 – The Nerdiest Question Ever

Okay, even I’m not enough of a lore freak to have paid attention to this much detail from the books and the game combined, but holy wow this guy is, and this guy has. He has probably the singular most incredibly nerdy (and I really do mean that in a good way) question to ask that I’ve ever seen at a convention or in a panel, and well…you can see the results. I don’t want to spoil it for you.

Tenacious D to Perform at Blizzcon

From the “jealous I won’t be there” department, news broke yesterday that Tenacious D, Jack Black’s band, will be wrapping up the festivities at Blizzcon next week. Here’s the press release frrom Blizzard PR:

Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced that the greatest band in the world*, Tenacious D, will perform at the closing concert during this year’s sold-out BlizzCon(R). Taking place October 22-23 at the Anaheim Convention Center, BlizzCon is a celebration of the global player communities surrounding Blizzard Entertainment’s Warcraft(R), Diablo(R), and StarCraft(R) game universes. While tickets to the convention are currently sold out, viewers can watch at home by ordering a BlizzCon Virtual Ticket, offering over 50 hours of event coverage (including Tenacious D’s performance) globally over the Internet and also on DIRECTV(R) in the United States.

Tenacious D is made up of musical visionaries Jack Black and Kyle Gass. After forming in 1994, the duo rose to rock god-dom following the release of the HBO cult-hit series Tenacious D: The Greatest Band on Earth. Since then, Tenacious D has released two albums and a pair of live DVDs, sold out arenas around the world, and starred in their own feature-length movie, Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny. At the BlizzCon closing ceremony on October 23, the band will perform an earth-shattering set that includes the debut of new, soon-to-be-legendary songs.

“The best way to wrap up two days of epic entertainment is with an epic rock concert–and few bands fit the bill like Tenacious D,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We’re looking forward to a great show and can’t wait to see what Jack and Kyle have in store for everyone attending BlizzCon and watching from home.”

In addition to serving as a gathering place for the Blizzard Entertainment gaming communities, BlizzCon will have an array of activities, including discussion panels, competitive and casual tournaments, contests, hands-on playtime with current and upcoming Blizzard Entertainment games, and more. Viewers at home can order a BlizzCon Virtual Ticket for $39.95 USD, available as a multi-channel Internet stream around the world (pricing and availability may vary by region) and also via DIRECTV in the United States . Visit www.blizzcon.com for more details and ordering information.

To keep pace with the continued growth of World of Warcraft as well as development on other Blizzard Entertainment games, the company is currently hiring for numerous open positions. More information on available career opportunities can be found at www.blizzard.com/jobs. As BlizzCon draws closer, further details about the show will be announced at www.blizzcon.com.

*Based on internal reports from Tenacious D and key band devotees

Okay, that’s just awesome. And honestly, no one will be able to say that Blizzard doesn’t know how to throw a party. Maybe the only way that show could get any more awesome is if Tenacious D did an unexpected rock battle with the Level 80 Elite Tauren Cheiftains. Now THAT would be awesome.

Peacebloom vs. Ghouls – Plants vs. Zombies comes to Cataclysm!

If you haven’t seen or heard the news yet, an entertaining new minigame has made an appearance in the Cataclysm beta called “Peacebloom vs. Ghouls,” which looks and plays an awful lot like the fabulous tower-defense-style game, Plants vs. Zombies. The video above, from the venerable TotalBiscuit, shows the minigame in all of its glory, and the best thing about the minigame is that when it’s all over, you get a special in-game companion, the Singing Sunflower!

What’s even better about the minigame is that when you do complete it and get your companion, you’ll find that your Singing Sunflower is voiced by none other than Laura Shigihara, the original composer of the Plants vs. Zombies game, and the delightful voice you hear in the promo trailer singing “There’s a zombie on your lawn!”

Shigihara confirmed the news on her blog yesterday, where she said:

Besides being fun and kind of novel if you’re into PvZ, you get a pretty cool reward for finishing the quest: a “singing sunflower” pet! I actually had no idea this information was public until Hashimoto linked me to TotalHalibut’s video earlier tonight… incidentally, I was right in the middle of recording the sunflower’s voice when I watched it. ^_^ I am so excited about voicing a WoW-pet because what can I say … I’m a big nerd.

Yeah, color me excited for this when Cataclysm comes out. I’m not even normally a big tower-defense person, but this game has a special place in my heart.
