More hunter-specific news, but I think it’s a big change to the Armory: now when you view a hunter’s talents and glyphs you’ll also see the specs of their pets. The hunter’s active pet is shown right next to the character’s talents, and you can pull down a drop-down menu to see any of their stabled pets as well. You can see mine in the image above (click to embiggen), or you can head over and see my humble main on the armory here.

It’s a pretty neat addition to the armory, and it definitely saves hunters from having to log in to the game to talk to other people about their pets. It also allows you to play a bit more with your pets’ talent builds by exporting them and then importing them into talent calculators, and I’m absolutely sure that sites like TalentChic and GlyphChic will eventually pick up on this change and start scrubbing the Armory for pet specs as well – it’ll be even easier in the future to make sure you can compare your pet’s spec with your friends and other players. Thanks to Aspect of the Hare for breaking the news!

Along with the wealth of changes coming in patch 3.2, one of them stood out for me, since my main is a hunter and spirit beasts are near and dear to my heart. I first learned about Skoll, the new wolf spirit beast, from Mania’s Arcania, who posted a fantastic video of someone who actually tamed him and is running around on the PTR with him.

He’s a gorgeous blue worg, with lightning crackling around his body, and he gets all of the skills that other spirit beasts get, including spirit strike and prowl. I’m hoping that when he goes live he’ll still be a Wolf, meaning he’ll get ferocious howl and other wolf-specific traits (not to mention their DPS) in addition to spirit strike – that might be enough to make me switch back to beast mastery now and again.

If you play a hunter and you never took the time or opportunity to read the venerable Big Red Kitty, especially if you were a Beast Master at any point, you have no idea what you missed. BRK was not just a number cruncher, but perhaps had some of the most entertaining but educational personality I’ve ever seen in a blogger of any stripe, not just among World of Warcraft bloggers.

BRK’s all but given up World of Warcraft and blogging in order to spend more time with his family, who he loves very much. Now I love WoW, and I love BRK and will miss him and his advice incredibly, but I think it’s pretty easy to say that he’s made the right decision – when a game becomes more than a game and becomes such a huge part of your life that it’s distracting you from other, more important parts of your life like your family, it’s time to put it down, at least for a while.

BRK mentions that he may be back at some point, but for the time being he’s devoting his time to his family, and we can all find him at his personal blog, where he’s sharing some pretty awesome steak tips!

All of BRK’s fans got together and submitted images and video for a fantastic farewell video compiled by his co-blogger Temerity Jane, that you can see here, or here:

The upcoming Hunter talents and spells have been announced. My other 60 is a Hunter (that sounds like a good bumper sticker), so I thought I might be qualified to make a few comments. First up; Snake Trap! 15 seconds of snakes attacking stuff. Oh, and apparently there’s going to be a few changes to the way Hunters work, specifically; you can lay traps during combat. So, basically, whenever you’re bored you can throw a bunch of snakes on the thing you’re fighting. There’s a sweet mana regent aspect that I expect most hunters will have on during raids. Oh, and there’s a misdirection spell that directs the aggro from your next three shots to a target raid member. An aimed-shot crit, a distracting shot and a multishot should mean that the tank won’t have to worry about keeping aggro for a while. Go check it out.

For the hunters among us, I have a question about hunter pets. What are the most interesting pets that you’ve ever had – and why?

My favourite so far has been a black armoured boar from Razorfen Kraul. They are fairly rare at high levels on Aggramar, but when I transferred that character to Moonglade, I was quite dismayed to find out that everyone and his damned brother had one. Hmmph. Anyway, he is pure tank, has a unique skin, eats almost everything, and although he doesn’t do a huge amount of damage on his own, he can hold almost anything so that I can attack from range. His name is Ennui. (Boar-dom? Well, it amuses me.)

There is one very unique pet that you may not have realised that you can now tame…the Ghost Saber.

This is the spawn that you can get from opening cat figurines in the Ruins of Mathrystra. (You have to open a lot of cat figurines, so allow a lot of time to try to get this one to spawn.) The Ghost Saber is permanently semi-transparent, a lovely ghostly cat. It is best to get one when you are close to level 20, however; I tamed mine at level 51 and couldn’t get it to level – so I keep it as a vanity pet. There is also an interesting bug where it occasionally drops dead for no apparent reason.

What are your favourite pets, and why?

O hear me, Lord Warcraft-Equivilent-God-Figure-Whose- Name-I-Don’t-Know-Because-I’m-Too-Lazy-To-Learn- Any-Of-That-Lore-Stuff!

Please take care of my beloved boar, Orson. He knows not what he does. Most of the time.

Please guide his tusks true!

When he runs off and attacks some kobold that I didn’t see, please give him the mental alacrity to turn around and help me out when one of that kobold’s friends or a bear or something turns around and attacks me like out of nowhere.

Please grant him the strength of character to know how to behave in public!

I’m kind of sick of him getting all up in people’s faces. And he should probably not stand on the dinner table. Or in the camp fires. And we really need to talk about this sleeping situation.

Please make him not be so jealous!

I’m allowed to see other pigs. It’s not like a sub/dom thing, Orson, like what we have. No, really, it isn’t. Sometimes I need the company of other porcines. It’s not you, it’s me.

Please have him eat less!

Those thelsamar blood sausages were supposed to be for me! And that Darnassian bleu would have really hit the spot after that whole kobold/bear debacle.

Please give him better DPS!

I don’t want to have to get a cat or something.

And maybe better armor!

Turtles are cute and all but they kind of creep me out.

Please make certain that he does not see where I get his food!

I don’t think he’d want to know.
