OMG Ponies!
There’s no greater feeling in Azeroth than picking up your first mount. Well, maybe the first successful MC raid, or making 60, or getting your epic mount…
Well. I did feel special there for just a second.

Just got my first horse, after racing through levels 36-40 in a marathon. Now that I’ve got it, I don’t feel like I have any great new thing to work towards. The next 20 levels is too big a goal.
What do I do now?
Congratulations!
I totally feel your pain Will, I have a feeling I may start writing a “Well, you hit 40 and got your mount…now what?” series. I’m really struggling with the whole thing myself.
I had a tough time with that too, when I hit 40. I kind of wandered around for a bit before I got back in my groove. Here’s the thing – the instances get way cooler post-40. You’ve got Uldaman, and Zul’Farrak, and Sunken Temple, not to mention all the big ones you get post-50 (or earlier if you’re lucky) – Scholomance, Stratholme, Upper/Lower Blackrock Spire, Blackrock Depths. There’s some really awesome quest lines that start popping up as well.
Never fear. You haven’t even hit the coolest part yet. :)
I found it tough to adjust back to having a “regular” mount on my second main after having a paladin with an epic mount!
Yeah, I know. Cry you a river? But now I’ve gotten an epic mount for that second main and all’s well with the world (of Warcraft), again!
IT IS a special moment!

I agree with Will and Tom. Soon as I got my horse I sort of started slacking off, since there’s nothing really good for ages from 40 -> 60.
I’ve been in the 50s season wise for longer than I was 1 -> 40 because I’ve just been listless. It also helped having a guild, but mine collapsed and now I’m doing it all alone which blows.
