Into the Lair …
Our guild raids three nights a week and this week we managed for the first time to clear Molten Core & Onyxia in two days, so that left us all with a free evening … It was time for us to hit BlackWing Lair!
Our Guild forums were a frenzy in the preceeding days, posts of tactics, links to videos, specifc class responisiblities on taking down Razorgore. As a Paladin, I could see that I might get a chance to play a significant action in the fight as I could be called upon to be a Razorgore controller!
Raid night came around and tragedy! All bar one of our Priests had a different and unique reason as to why they couldn’t turn up, including one particular Priest who got a lot of stick when he turned up to the entrance to BWL and realised he wasn’t actually attuned!
So, we had one Priest. Call the raid off right? Wrong. We called up our Green wearing reserves and gave it a shot. Gave it several shosts actually.
The whole point of the fight is to use Razorgore to destroy all of the eggs in the room, thus banishing all the adds, after which you can poke Razorgore to death. Myself and our class leader was on controller duty! Talk about fun. As a Paladin, most of the time we just get to stand back and heal, so to have the chance to stomp around as a big dragony boss was fun!
We had about 6 tries in the end and our best attempt was with 3 players afk and we got down to three eggs. Not bad considering we only had one Priest.
Next week … He’s getting munched!
Razorgore is a good fight – tough, but doesn’t take to long to learn. Vael on the other hand, well, the only way to describe Vael is “toll-booth”. He will stop your progress and extract a significant toll in terms of repair bill, and it doesn’t get much better with practice. He’s a guild breaker so watch out.
(Note: the guild I’m in is working on downing Nef, and we still wipe multiple times on Vael each run)
Vael is all about tank transitions. If you can keep your tank holding aggro and switch properly when they start burning, that’s the majority of the fight there. Also, you have to keep your rogues from dieing too soon, cause they can do some big damage at the end to save you. Helps to have some fury tanks too. You can execute for 2/3rds of his health since he starts at 30%.
Good luck on Razorgore and the rest of them! BWL has a lot of fun fights.
I’d suggest your MT control Razor, because he’ll beeline for whoever was controlling him once phase 2 starts. Also, have two kiters, running a figure-8 pattern around the room – and use warriors. Put two paladins on each kiter – keep ’em in the middle of the room so they can keep range on the kiters at all times.
