Get Metblogs Azeroth on an Epic Helio

helio150.jpg+15 mobility – We just made a pretty exciting announcement – You can now read all the Metroblogging sites, including MBAZ super easily from any Helio mobile device. Of course if you don’t have a Helio then this isn’t *that* exciting for you, but for those of us who do it’s pretty awesome. We’re right off of the main Helio web start page under “Surf Helio” next to The Onion and Maxim. Full announcement is here. Enjoy!

The Twinkie Defense

I’m posting this on metblogs rather than the WoW forum because the crowd here seems pretty open-minded, and there’s something I’ve been planning to do for a while– take on the indefensible position of justifying Twinks.

I’d like to take this forum to clear up some common misconceptions about twinks, and maybe give y’all some insight into what makes us Twink. Who knows? Maybe I’ll get a few of you to try your hand at it.

Old Water, New Water

Stopped playing for a while, after hitting a rut around level 46 with my dwarf hunter. Came back to discover a change from the patches that actually improves my play experience. On my eMac, underwater adventures were no problem. On my MacBook Pro, they were unbearable. My super-duper new graphics has an Achilles heel. A wet, dank Achilles heel inhabited by shit-eating Murlocs. I got so mad while adventuring in the Wetlands that I kicked a puppy. (Calm down — it was an evil puppy.)

Anyway. Things have changed:

Also, my new-fangled Deepdive Helmet is too swank for words. It’s the reason I got into medicine. Er, I mean, engineering.

Real Ultimate Shadow Priest

Maybe this dates me a bit, but The Official Shadow Priest Webpage just put a big smile on my face.

Q: Why is everyone so obsessed about shadow priests?

A: Shadow priests are the ultimate paradox. On the one hand they melt faces in PVP, but on the other hand, shadow priests melt faces in PVE.

Although now I’m left wondering who would win in a fight between a Shadow Priest and SARS.

Slippage®™

Blizzard Entertainment® today announced that the release date for World of Warcraft®: The Burning Crusade™, the highly anticipated expansion for World of Warcraft, will be in January 2007.

Wow. I don’t think I’d want to be the person that made that decision. Thanks to all the hype, the longer BC takes to arrive the more accounts will stall as players decide that it’s not worth grinding for equipment that will be obsolete once the expansion kicks in. I’m guessing, but I’d also say that the longer players go without the game the more chance of them ultimately not returning.

This is why we play

One of the blogs that I read on a daily basis is Bannable Offenses. Yes, it’s FFXI rather than WoW, but it’s very funny, and you know the WoW GMs say the same thing about us, their customers. Today he had a rather gorgeous piece entitled “Why” – you should check it out.

“This game is about more than just winning. It’s about trying new things and reaching new levels. It’s about getting to the next place or the next story, the next quest or the next mission. It’s about being part of a game rather than just playing it.”

Lovely…says it all.

New guy in town

pennyarcade.jpg

I saw this on Penny Arcade today, and I just had to post it. Absolutely hilarious!

So with that, I bid WoW farewell.

I’ve finally decided to make the break. At the end of October my current pre-paid card runs out. This time it really does look like the break is going to be forever.

Transfer Blues

So, it seems the cooldown on paid transfers has been reduced to one month from the previous six months. (Causing all kinds of debate on the forums.) I, however, am personally very glad that Blizzard made that decision.

Have you ever transferred a character to another server for all the right reasons, after doing tons of research, after thinking through every possible consequence…and then regretted it? That is the situation that I am presently in.

Australia and the Burning Crusade Collector’s Edition.

Rumours are flying that Australia won’t get the Collector’s Edition. Or maybe there will only be 8,000 for the entire country. Or retailers only get one per 25 normal editions they order. Or one per 100. Blizzard don’t appear to have stepped up to the plate to give any details. Either way, two of my pre-orders just fell through with the following message:

We regret to inform you of the recent announcement that the official Collector’s Edition will not be locally released in Australia as anticipated. Every effort was made to confirm the release with the distributors before posting it on our site, however we have now been told that only a Bonus Edition that will be released locally.

And the third place I put my name down is fairly sure they won’t get any either. Grrr.
